My First ATC

I don't know why this subject struck me first. I have always been fascinated with the Statue of Liberty and will probably make more cards in its honor. I wanted to use my nifty new kaleidoscope software. I created the edging using Microsoft Excel. Then I pasted it on wrong. (I'm always in a hurry!)

The photo bottom right shows the Statue of Liberty's arm in Central Park. France did not send the statue to us intact, but piece by piece. I believe the arm was the first piece sent. Not wanting to wait, it was put on display. Visitors could climb into the arm and look through the flame (which was replaced in recent years). Visitors have not been allowed to climb through the arm in many years, as it has weakened.

I think reading Jack Finney's "Time After Time" was what sparked my interest in the Statue. It is a wonderful book - my favorite science fiction book. I highly recommend it not only for its imaginative plot, but for the reproductions of photos from the era, among which is the statue. In fact, the Statue of Liberty's arm plays a crucial part in the plot.

I want to re-visit this subject matter later and give it the care it deserves.
